As part of the Discovery Fleet, Discovery Palawan is operated in collaboration with Club Paradise Divers – the in-house dive centre at the exclusive Club Paradise Resort in Coron. Discovery Palawan is open to non-divers, offering full-day programs with beach and island visits, snorkelling, and kayaking on the agenda.
Originally constructed in 1972 in Groningen, Holland, the vessel travelled the Caribbean before becoming an adventure cruise ship in the Philippines. Renamed Discovery Palawan in 2013, and given an extensive renovation, this liveaboard boasts a fresh, stylish look and plenty of onboard comforts. Discovery Palawan now offers several accommodation options, multiple lounge areas and first-class service, ensuring a relaxed and stress-free atmosphere onboard. And, with a spacious and well-equipped dive deck, full equipment rental, nitrox upgrades, and air-conditioned camera room, guests are guaranteed an exceptional experience.
Onboard Discovery Palawan
Discovery Palawan was built in 1972, and underwent extensive renovation in 2013, giving this liveaboard a modern look and comfortable feel. The vessel is almost 50 metres long, providing plenty of space for a relaxing trip, and boasts 16 Standard Cabins and four Upper Deck Cabins, each with ensuite bathrooms and either air-conditioning or climate control. Discovery Palawan also offers an air-conditioned salon and dining area, two shaded decks, a sun deck and an outdoor dining area and bar where meals are served buffet-style.
Diving on Discovery Palawan
Every diver onboard Discovery Palawan has their own dedicated space on the dive deck, allowing for stress-free gear assembly, and the dive deck features three chase boats to access dive sites. Full equipment rental is possible onboard, including dive computers and torches, and both 12 and 15-litre tanks are available. Nitrox 28% and 32% can also be arranged at an additional cost and an air-conditioned camera room caters to guests interested in underwater photography. PADI courses from beginner to advanced are offered including the nitrox speciality. Discovery Palawan is equipped with all necessary safety equipment such as first aid kits, life vests, and oxygen.
Top tips
- Introductory and Open Water courses are not offered on the Tubbataha voyages.
- This vessel is ideal for long-range expeditions such as conservation projects.
