Choosing the right dive resort in Raja Ampat
Apart from Misool Resort in the far south, most dive resorts in Raja Ampat are in and around the Dampier Strait, the heart of Raja Ampat’s exceptional diving. So your choice of resort should be based on whether you’re looking for affordable or luxury accommodation, easy access to other areas such as Wayag to the north and Piaynemo to the west, and flexibility with your travel dates, as more remote resorts only offer free transfers a few times a week. ZuBlu's knowledgable dive travel team can also help you choose the ideal resort.
Where are the dive resorts located in Raja Ampat?
The dive resorts in Raja Ampat are located in two areas - at Misool Island in the south, and in and around the Dampier Strait in the central region. There is just one resort in the south - Misool Eco Resort - and this is booked until the 2028 / 2029 season, so if you are considering a dive resort stay in Raja Ampat, then most likely you will be staying in the Dampier Strait. These are located closer to Sorong where the airport is located, and have more regular transfers, making them much easier to access.
ZuBlu’s partner dive resorts in and around the Dampier Strait are located on Waigeo and Gam Islands, Kri and Mansuar Islands, or to the south on Batanta Island. One resort - Cove Eco Resort - is located in the far west on Yeben Island.
All the dive resorts in the Dampier Strait offer day trips to the famous dive sites that have made this areas so famous. Learn more about the scuba diving in Raja Ampat including in the Dampier Stait and at Misool.

Dive experience requirements in Raja Ampat
The scuba diving throughout Raja Ampat can be challenging, and currents are common - this is why the marine life is so good! However, dive resorts can normally cater to beginners by choosing sites with less challenging conditions. So if you are a beginner planning a dive trip to Raja Ampat and don’t have much experience yet, then we recommend booking at a dive resort rather than a liveaboard. Liveaboards in Raja Ampat normally set a minimum experience level to join their trips.
