Scuba Republic Basecamp Raja Ampat is a rustic resort located near Waisai on Waigeo Island, around a 20-minute drive from the harbour. The sole purpose of this basecamp is to provide clean and comfortable accommodation, delicious food, and excellent service within easy reach of some of the world’s very best dive sites – and that’s exactly what it does. Made by divers for divers, this resort’s design revolves around the unique needs of underwater explorers, and its premium position places guests right on the edge of the Dampier Strait, with an array of world-class diving on the doorstep.
Scuba Republic has explored most of Indonesia’s remotest areas since its creation over 20 years ago and now has bases in Komodo, Raja Ampat and South Sulawesi. Over the years, this dive operator has built a strong reputation for professionalism, experience and fun – all at great value for money. Now with a chain of dive operations, Scuba Republic offers a variety of unparalleled services, from liveaboards and charter yachts to rustic resorts, top-notch dive centres, and incredible land-based dive safaris.
Explore the resort
Guests staying at Scuba Republic Basecamp are accommodated in a choice of double, family, or dorm-style rooms, all of which feature ensuite bathrooms, air-conditioning, and terraces. Communal areas at this resort include a circular lounge and dining area, a relaxation deck under the shady trees by the beach, and a private jetty where you can enjoy amazing sunsets with a cold beer. As the premises are located right on the beach, guests also have access to the beautiful house reef, which is also perfect for snorkelling. Convenient outdoor showers are also on hand should you want to rinse off the saltwater before relaxing on a bean bag.
As this is a remote part of the world, the price of this resort includes three buffet meals each day, alongside complimentary coffee, tea, water, and fruit. A nearby kiosk also sells an ever-changing list of edible and essential items, but for anything more, guests will have to make their way to Waisai. The resort’s staff will happily help arrange travel to Waisai or excursions to local attractions like Piaynemo, Blue River, or Bird Watching.
