The island nation of Indonesia straddles the equator between the Indian and Pacific Oceans and lies at the heart of the ‘Coral Triangle’ - the epicentre of the world’s marine biodiversity. Nowhere on earth can visitors experience such a range of spectacular diving - from encounters with huge whale sharks and oceanic manta rays, to muck dives with beautiful Rhinopias and the exceedingly rare psychedelic frogfish.
With its white sand beach, jungle backdrop and beautiful water bungalows, Papua Paradise Eco Resort is a picture-perfect tropical dive destination, and one of Raja Ampat's finest resorts.
- A glorious location, perched on a beautiful beach overlooking the Dampier Strait
- Easy access to the amazing dive sites nearby
- Beautiful accommodation built over the water, naturally cooled by sea breezes and fans
- Plenty of other activities including tours to see birds of paradise
Papua Paradise Eco Resort is part of the Lotus Group of hotels and like the other properties run by Lotus, Papua Paradise is a resort built for comfort, exceptional service and great diving. It is located on the small island of Birie, on Batanta’s north coast facing the Dampier Strait, and perfectly placed to explore the sites that helped to make Raja Ampat so famous, as well as some less well known ones around Batanta itself.
Papua Paradise is built between the beautiful blue sea and the dense green jungle that cloaks the island of Birie. Obviously the resort is focused on the incredible diving, but guests can also explore the natural environment on land and the area is actually famous for its bird life as much as its marine diversity. Fabulous endemic species - including birds of paradise - can be seen from trails behind the resort or on one of their special bird tours.
The resort’s 16 Superior Bungalows all have beautiful furnishings and decoration, an ensuite bathroom and veranda with sun beds and hammock. None have aircon, instead they are cooled by natural breezes and a fan. The Superior Bungalows are available with twin or double beds.
The 10 larger Deluxe Bungalows are airy and audacious, with an extra ceiling fan, two-tier veranda and king sized bed, along with the beautiful artwork and design found throughout the resort. None have aircon, instead they are cooled by natural breezes and fans. The Deluxe Bungalows are available with twin or double beds and have enough space for a third bed to be added.
The resort's 26 bungalows are built over the sea, overlooking the amazing house reef and offering amazing views out over the calm sea. The rooms take inspiration from local architectural styles and were designed to take advantage of natural cooling - no need for aircon when you can have sea breezes and a fan. Every bungalow has a double or twin single beds, an ensuite bathroom and a veranda with day beds to relax on and watch the sunset.
The resort restaurant serves three meals a day and snacks in between, and is a great place to sit and relax with a coffee whilst watching the juvenile sharks in the shallows below. On the menu is a mix of Indonesian and Western food, created from food grown in the resort garden, bought from the local villages and fishermen or made fresh every day in the kitchen. If not diving or relaxing in the restaurant, guests can go kayaking, snorkelling, bird watching or join an early morning mangrove cruise or village tour in the afternoon. Papua Paradise can also arrange trips to see birds of paradise on Batanta, very close to the resort.
The dive centre at Papua Paradise Eco Resort is run by Gangga Divers and as such, has a strong reputation for high standards of safety, service and professionalism. The dive centre has plenty of space for guests, a camera room, classroom and a total of 8 boats, most of which are powered by fuel-efficient 4 stroke engines. The centre guarantees a guide to guest ratio of 4 to 1, and all the staff are trained in responsible diving practices and are great at spotting the amazing species that make the diving in this area so special. The resort offers free nitrox to all suitably qualified guests.
Papua Paradise Eco Resort was built with the environment in mind and employs sustainable business practices whenever possible. The resort relies entirely on natural cooling and fans, rather than using aircon, and recycles plastic, food and chemical waste. Papua Paradise has developed close ties with local villages and buys much of its food locally. It also runs a foundation to support the villagers and provide medical supplies and basic medical education to combat common diseases, and supports the work of a conservation group studying the whale species of Raja Ampat.
