Vessel information
Constructed in 2009, this steel motor yacht remains one of the Galapagos’ premier diving liveaboards. Offering elegant comfort and unique seven-night itineraries Humboldt Explorer is designed to remind guests about the pleasures of diving, delivering unforgettable experiences in a bucket-list-worthy destination. With just 16 guests on board, this purpose-built 34-metre vessel is spacious and provides the relaxed and welcoming environment you long for when diving in the exceptional yet challenging waters of the Galapagos Islands.
Operated by the first Green Fins approved liveaboard fleet, guests can be confident in the Humboldt Explorer's commitment to safe and sustainable dive practices. And, building on their many years of experience in the region, the team behind Humboldt Explorer have developed the ultimate Galapagos itinerary, dedicating maximum time to the wonders of Wolf and Darwin Islands. For guests, this means even more time with the region’s marquee creature, hammerheads. But, of course, hammerheads aren’t the only reason people come to this incredible destination, and Humboldt Explorer also offers excursions to the Santa Cruz highlands in search of giant tortoises and North Seymour for a spot of bird watching.
Onboard the Humboldt Explorer
One of the island’s most popular liveaboards, Humboldt Explorer comfortably accommodates up to 16 guests in eight welcoming cabins. Meals are served on this deck and feature a mix of International and Ecuadorian dishes. Snacks such as cookies and fruit are also provided free of charge, as are tea, coffee, soft drinks and local alcohol. Premium alcohol is also available at an additional charge. This vessel also features a partially covered sun deck with a Jacuzzi and ample seating - the perfect place to watch the sunset.
Diving from Humboldt Explorer
Humboldt Explorer’s large dive deck is located on the main deck and comes equipped with individual storage areas and a convenient bathroom. This vessel is particularly well suited to underwater photographers, offering a large camera table to prepare equipment for the next dive, as well as charging points for cameras, and separate freshwater rinse tanks. Certified guests can choose to dive with nitrox at an additional cost and naturalist diving instructors help divers make the most of the region’s renowned biodiversity.

Conservation
Humboldt Explorer is operated by the Explorer Ventures fleet that strives to enhance the sustainability of their operations at every turn and lead the industry towards better protocols for resorts and liveaboards alike. To do this, Explorer Ventures created the Dive Green Environmental Management Policy. Using this policy, the team can better identify the potential environmental impacts of their operation in order to develop strategies that will help measure, and ultimately minimise, their footprint. In turn, the policy also helps ensure the long-term sustainability of coral reefs, recreational scuba diving, and local livelihoods.
As a proud member of Green Fins, Explorer Ventures empower divers by connecting them with internationally recognised best practices, and educating guests both before and during their trip. Explorer Ventures also supports the local communities and marine protected areas in which they operate through engagement on mooring programs, scientific research, and financial donations. From participating with special research itineraries to accommodating researchers on board, and helping to collect the data that they use, Explorer Ventures is committed to aiding scientific research.
