Liveaboard itineraries in Komodo
Liveaboard itineraries in the Komodo National Park are typically 5-7 nights, although there are liveaboards that offer both shorter and longer trips. Shorter trips will be limited in the number of islands and dive sites they can visit. These itineraries all include diving in the central area of the park then head south or north depending on the time of year.
Liveaboards operate in Komodo throughout the year, with more visiting between April and October during the high season. At this time of year, liveaboards typically sail north to visit Gili Lawa Laut and Crystal Rock, even heading to Banta and Sangeang on longer trips. During the low season they focus on the southern tip of Komodo - home to Manta Alley - and Rinca’s Horseshoe Bay. All itineraries include dives at famous sites such as Karang Makassar - also known as Manta Point - Tatawa Besar and Batu Bolong.
Land excursions are also scheduled giving guests the opportunity to trek in search of Komodo dragons, climb to the famous viewpoints such as on Padar Island, or swim and relax on the park’s spectacular beaches.
Liveaboard seasons in Komodo
Liveaboards operate year round in the Komodo National Park, but there are far fewer liveaboards in January and February during the rainy season. North and central Komodo are best dived between April and October, while the south is at its best between October and December. The park is at its busiest - and demand for spaces on liveaboards highest - during July and August.
Dive experience requirements in Komodo
Liveaboard diving in the Komodo National Park is challenging, with strong currents on many sites. Divers are normally required to hold an Advanced Open Water certification or equivalent and have at least 30 logged dives - some liveaboards or itineraries require more. Although there are liveaboards that welcome less experienced divers, we recommend guests have a suitable level of experience so they better appreciate all that the park has to offer. Liveaboards in the Komodo National Park typically offer 3-4 dives a day, so nitrox certification is also very useful.
