The June Hong Chian Lee - nicknamed The Junk - was part of a small merchant fleet that traded up and down the coastline from Burma to Malaysia between the 1960s and 1980s. In 1997, the hardwood teak vessel was renovated to become a stylish liveaboard. This authentic boat’s charm caught Hollywood’s eye, and was used in several films including James Bond’s ‘The Man With The Golden Gun’, as well as ‘Swiss Family Robinson’. Now, The Junk and its team delight in giving guests a five-star holiday, offering dive trips between November and May.
Onboard The Junk
The Junk accommodates 18 guests in six ensuite air-conditioned cabins in stylish comfort. Meal times are taken very seriously, and chefs make it their mission to deliver as many different dishes as possible. They even do breakfast twice - perfect for hungry divers! Dishes are served buffet-style in covered indoor and outdoor dining areas, and snacks are always available between meals, including fresh fruit, cookies, donuts and cakes.
Indoors, an air-conditioned saloon provides the ideal place to relax, with comfy sofas, a library, movie selection and flatscreen TV. Sun-worshippers will love the partly-shaded sun deck fitted with inviting sunbeds - the ultimate spot for soaking up the gorgeous views. There’s also a lovely outdoor deck area with comfortable chairs and retractable shade.
