Conservation at Lembeh Resort
Lembeh Resort and [email protected] employ and train many local villagers on Lembeh Island. The resort staff are given the opportunity to experience diving in the hope that it will cultivate a greater appreciation for the unique underwater ecosystems of the strait.
The resort also donated materials to build the local church in nearby Pintu Kota Kecil and provides electrical power for the church and Sunday school, which plays an important role in most of the education on the island. The resort also helps guests to donate materials for the school and the children. The two nearest villages Pintu Kota Kecil and Pintu Kota Besar are home to families of small-scale fishermen and the resort is planning to contribute towards a learning centre with a small library and a computer with a USB modem for internet access.
As well as their commitment to the villages in the area, the resort strives to reduce its environmental impact whenever possible.
- For divers looking to make the most of their time in Sulawesi, combination holidays with Murex partner resorts in Manado and Bangka can easily be arranged.
- Take a late afternoon expedition to Tangkoko National Park to look for the world’s smallest nocturnal primate – Sulawesi’s endemic spectral tarsier.
- Consider brining a 5mm wetsuit for the long much dives at Lembeh - it is very easy to feel the chill after an hour or more spent hunting for critters.
