Vessel
Vessel information
Meaning ‘explore the sea’ in Indonesian, Jelajahi Laut has been designed by experienced divers to provide guests with the very best liveaboard diving experience. Built out of golden tropical timber in the shipyards of Sulawesi, this vessel is seeped in luxurious appeal and comes equipped with a wealth of contemporary comforts. With only six cabins and a normally maximum capacity of just 12 guests at any one time, your trip aboard Jelajahi Laut will be both intimate and relaxing, ensuring plenty of personal attention throughout. Between action-packed divers, you’ll find plenty of time for relaxing on deck with a cool drink, watching the sunset before a delicious meal, or star-gazing beneath the unspoilt skies.
Mikumba Diving is a PADI operator offering daily diving trips and liveaboard safaris in Komodo and Raja Ampat, as well as off-the-beaten-track expeditions throughout the Banda Sea, and more. Having first set sail in 2021, this vessel is brand new to the Mikumba Diving fleet and is the most luxurious of its vessels, catering to discerning guests who prefer not to forego comfort in favour of adventure. And, as you’d expect from a premium liveaboard, the crew is experienced with local conditions and wildlife, crafting unique itineraries according to diver interests and seasonal highlights.

At 32-metres long, Jelajahi Laut comfortably accommodates a maximum of 12 guests on scheduled voyages and 14-16 guests during private charters. Open-air social spaces can be found on both the upper deck and sun deck and come furnished with cushions, beanbags and sunbeds, as well as several tables built specifically for playing board games. When it comes to mealtimes, a range of local and International cuisine is offered, along with tea, coffee, soft drinks and water. Beer, wine and spirits available to purchase.
Diving from Jelajahi Laut
As you’d expect from such a new vessel, all Jelajahi Laut’s rental equipment is brand-new, and includes Suunto dive computers. Two accompanying speedboats are also on hand to ferry divers to-and-fro, visiting all the underwater highlights in their chosen region. A range of scuba courses is also offered, led by experienced instructors. Courses involve a balance of theory and hands-on practice, with the large sun deck often used for classroom sessions.

Conservation
Mikumba Diving is passionate about protecting the local environment above and below water. Their current initiatives include phasing out single-use plastics in favour of earth-friendly options and hiring and training local people rather than hiring foreigners in an effort to give back to the Labuan Bajo community.
Mikumba also partners with organisations including Trash Hero, Marine Megafauna Foundation, and Shark Guardian. All three of these programmes focus their efforts on the region's at-risk ecosystems, with clean-ups, community outreach, and more. If you're hoping to get hands-on, get in touch ahead of your trip to find out what volunteer opportunities are currently available!
