Diving at Nautika Dive Alor
Nautika is a PADI 5 Star Dive Resort with a well-equipped dive centre and a maximum ratio of four divers to one guide. Diving packages normally include two morning dives and an additional afternoon or night dive. Two fibreglass boats take divers to the surrounding sites, with rental equipment included in the price, and nitrox, private guides and PADI training available on request. Underwater photographers can use the air-conditioned camera and storage room with space for up to six camera systems, charging points, air blowers, tools and cleaning equipment. Snorkelling can also be arranged.
The resort’s position opens up an unusually varied week of diving. Sites around Pura, Kepa, Ternate and Buaya islands offer good visibility, dramatic reef scenery and current-swept sites where schooling fish and pelagic encounters are possible, while sheltered areas reveal an entirely different side of Alor. Macro-focused dives can produce rhinopias, pygmy seahorses, frogfish, Coleman shrimps and mandarinfish, and the wider region can occasionally deliver hammerheads, thresher sharks and mola mola. Visibility is often excellent, but currents can be powerful and site choice is adapted to conditions and diver experience.
Diving in Alor
Alor offers one of Indonesia’s most exciting combinations of reef, drift and muck diving. The currents flowing through the Pantar Strait support colourful coral gardens, dramatic walls and pinnacles alive with schooling fish, while protected bays such as Kalabahi and Beangabang have earned a reputation for unusual macro life. Classic sites include the Great Wall of Pantar, Cathedral, Current Alley and Apuri – also known as Clown Valley – where sprawling fields of anemones add yet another distinctive underwater landscape.
Diving is possible throughout much of the year, with March to December normally the most reliable season - our favourite time of year is September to November. Conditions can be cooler and currents stronger around October and November, increasing the possibility of encounters with larger pelagic species. Nautika’s location on western Alor puts both the reefs of the Pantar Strait and Alor’s celebrated muck diving within reach, making it a fantastic choice for divers who enjoy a variety of diving.

Getting There
Alor Mali Airport (ARD) is the main domestic gateway to Alor. Most international visitors reach the island via one of Indonesia’s major international gateways, such as Bali or Jakarta, before travelling onwards through Kupang in West Timor.
Nautika is around a 50-minute road journey from the airport, and airport pick-up can be arranged for resort guests. On arrival or before departure, guests also have complimentary use of the Nautika Airport Lounge at Alor Mali Airport.
Other Activities
Although diving is the focus of this resort, land tours around Alor can be arranged for guests interested in seeing more of the island, while snorkelling offers an easier way to explore its clear coastal waters.
Nautika also runs a coral adoption programme connected with its wider reef monitoring and restoration work, giving interested guests an opportunity to engage more closely with the resort’s marine conservation activities.
