Diving at Komodo Resort

Komodo Resort's PADI 5-Star dive centre is geared towards making the most of its location. Most days begin with two morning boat dives, followed by lunch back at the resort, with an afternoon dive available for those who want to keep going. Night dives and full-day, three-dive trips can also be arranged. Groups are kept to a maximum of four divers per guide and organised according to experience and preferences, which is especially useful in Komodo, where conditions can vary dramatically from one site to the next. Rental equipment, dive computers, torches, nitrox, private guides and a range of PADI courses are also available.

For many guests, this resort’s real appeal centres around the variety of diving within reach. Batu Bolong offers swirling fish life and exhilarating currents, while Karang Makassar, better known as Manta Point, brings the possibility of encounters with reef mantas. Siaba Besar and more sheltered reefs around Sebayur provide gentler alternatives for newer divers, while the resort's own kilometre-long house reef allows guests to keep exploring close to home. Turtles, reef sharks and colourful reef fish are commonly found here, and snorkellers can access the reef from the jetty or join suitable boat excursions.

Diving in Komodo National Park

Komodo National Park’s diving is characterised by warm, clearer conditions on the northern reefs with cooler, nutrient-rich currents and prolific reefs in the south. Across the more than 50 recognised sites, divers can encounter reef sharks, manta rays, turtles and giant trevally alongside schooling fish, colourful corals and an impressive variety of macro life. Currents are central to the Komodo experience, creating exhilarating drift dives and fuelling the productivity for which these reefs are renowned.

In the north and central park, sites such as Castle Rock, Crystal Rock, Tatawa and Batu Bolong are known for clear water, prolific fish life and current-swept reefs. Southern Komodo has a different character, with colder water, soft corals, sponges, unusual macro life and celebrated sites such as Manta Alley, Cannibal Rock and Yellow Wall. Diving is possible year-round, although seasonal sea conditions influence which parts of the park are accessible or not.

Getting There

The gateway to Komodo Resort is Labuan Bajo Komodo Airport (LBJ) on Flores, which has direct domestic connections from cities including Bali and Jakarta, and international flights arriving from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Resort staff meet guests on arrival and transfer them to the harbour for the onward journey to Sebayur Besar. The complimentary scheduled resort boat leaves Labuan Bajo at 12:45, taking around 1 hour 40 minutes to reach the island. The return transfer departs the resort at 08:30. 

Other Activities

Diving may be the main attraction, but it is easy to fill a non-diving day. Guests can snorkel the house reef, relax beside the beachfront pool, book a treatment at Sebayur Spa or follow the short trail behind the resort for elevated sunrise and sunset views.

The resort also arranges excursions deeper into Komodo National Park, including dragon treks on Komodo or Rinca, hikes on Padar Island, visits to Pink Beach and sunset trips to watch thousands of flying foxes leave the mangroves around Kalong Island. Island-hopping and dedicated snorkelling trips can also be arranged, making the resort a good fit for mixed groups with differing interests.
