Bunaken Oasis is firmly committed to ethical operations, grounding its practices in sustainable tourism development that benefits both the local community and the region’s fragile ecosystem. The resort boasts its own water filtration system, built to minimise environmental impact, with its finished product laboratory-tested frequently for quality assurance. Guests are provided with a refillable bottle on arrival and have resort-wide access to drinking water. This same water is also supplied to nearby local villages, as part of a plan to reduce the entire island’s plastic consumption. Together with details like biodegradable straws and garden-to-table dining, Bunaken Oasis has all but stamped out single-use plastic use resort-wide.
Guests are also invited to participate in the resort’s conservation projects, like mangrove plantings, and its sea turtle head-start programme which raises hatchlings through their critical first year, before releasing them at the perfect moment.
