Vessel information
Stockholm is a classic ship built in 1953 for the Swedish National Maritime Administration. In 1998, this vessel underwent a complete refurbishment, ensuring it was more than capable of entering the next chapter of its life as a comfortable polar expedition cruise. Today, Stockholm represents a marvellous piece of maritime history, complete with rich wooden decks and beautiful brass details. After more than 20 years spent navigating the waters of Svalbard, Stockholm and its first-class crew are about as experienced as they come – boasting a track record of being able to access difficult to reach sites mostly inaccessible to other ships.
At 40-metres long, this charming vessel accommodates just 12 passengers in six ensuite, bunk-style cabins. With such a small party on board, a trip with Stockholm is like travelling on your own private yacht. And, the crew are every bit as enthusiastic about exploring this remote Arctic region as the guests, creating a palpable feeling of anticipation and adventure on board – much like the original expeditions in the region.
Onboard Stockholm
Stockholm’s homely dining room is located on the lower deck, surrounded by the guest cabins, and is finished with two spacious tables and comfortable seating. The food on board is of a high standard, ensuring guests’ energy levels are sufficient for the day’s activities, and all non-alcoholic beverages are included in the price. An intimate lounge located on the main deck provides the vessel’s second indoor social space, offering cosy seating from which to enjoy a small selection of reading materials or mingle with other guests. When it comes to alfresco entertainment, an undercover barbecue area can also be found at the beck of the vessel.
Activities and excursions from Stockholm
Complete with two onboard zodiacs, Stockholm is well-equipped to conduct excursions throughout each voyage. And, the low number of guests means that each tender accommodates just six passengers per guide – a ratio few other Arctic boats come close to. Of course, this vessel’s decks also provide plenty of opportunity for observation, while the 10-metre high crows nest on the main mast is an especially unique and charming feature.
