Leading the way in the Australian dive industry since 1969, Mike Ball Dive Expeditions’s outstanding dive trips depart from Cairns, Townsville or Horn Island to explore some of the best dive sites on the Great Barrier Reef and in the Coral Sea. Each three, four and seven night voyage gives guests the chance to explore this incredible region, including the likes of Ribbon Reefs, the world famous Cod Hole, the Yongala wreck and so much more. Onboard Spoilsport
Spoilsport accommodates up to 28 guests in 14 air-conditioned ensuite cabins that are serviced daily. Guests have everything needed onboard for a comfortable trip, including a spacious air-conditioned lounge and well-stocked bar offering indoor relaxation, and a lavish partially-shaded sun deck with sun beds and lovely ocean views. The chef prepares all international meals from fresh, which are served in the air-conditioned dining room. Vegetarians are well-catered for with their own dedicated menu, and Spoilsport’s award-winning food also accommodates other dietary requirements with advance notice.
Diving from Spoilsport
Diving is made easy thanks to a spacious dive deck complete with entry and exit platforms, along with two tenders for easy access to and from dive sites, and nitrox to maximise bottom time. There’s also a large camera table and separate camera rinse tanks for photographers. Plus the team’s procedures allow greater freedom for divers, with an ‘open dive deck’ policy - meaning there is no restriction on bottom time.
PADI Discover Scuba, Open Water Referral, Advanced, Nitrox and other courses can all be undertaken onboard Spoilsport.
Top tips
- The best way to explore the Coral Sea and Ribbon Reef sites, opt for a seven-night Coral Sea Safari which also includes unlimited dives.
- Minke whales are commonly seen along the Ribbon Reefs north of Cairns between May and August, but for the best chances of an encounter, trips in June and July are recommended.
- In June and July, Spoilsport conducts special minke whale expeditions with the second day devoted almost entirely to finding minke whales.
- Spoilsport’s ‘Fly Dive Cod Hole’ itinerary showcases the best sites of the Great Barrier Reef handpicked by the highly experienced team.
