Vessel information
Commencing operations in 2019 out of Walindi Plantation Resort, Oceania is the newest option when it comes to liveaboard diving in Papua New Guinea. Having undergone an extensive refit, Oceania is fresh and modern, but still comfortable and designed with the modern diver in mind. At 27-metres long this vessel can comfortably accommodate up to 16 guests in eight above deck cabins with a choice of double or twin configurations. Each cabin also comes equipped with an ensuite bathroom, individually-controlled air-conditioning, and an ocean view.
Oceania operates different itineraries throughout the year, each planned around the prevailing weather patterns of a particular season. Exploring the three most popular diving areas of Kimbe Bay, Witu Islands and Fathers Reefs, the vessel’s signature itinerary operates from April through June and September through November. Mid-year itineraries run from June through August and visit just two of the above dive destinations, while only Witu Islands itineraries are offered in November and December. The type of diving experienced depends on the itinerary, but generally, guests can expect light current, easy diving, and lots of fish.
Onboard Oceania
On the main deck, guests will find Oceania’s open-plan saloon and dining area, which features two long tables that comfortably seat up to 16 guests. Meals are prepared in a small galley using as much local, fresh produce as is available at the time. Buffet spreads are provided for breakfast and lunch while dinner is an a la carte affair. Beverages of all kinds are available from the bar, as well as complimentary water, juices, teas and coffees.
Next to the dining area, a spacious couch is equipped with multiple charging sockets, allowing guests to kick back with a device while it charges. The upper deck features tables and chairs for relaxing and a parasol for protection. This deck is perfect for reclining in the sun, reading in the shade, watching the sun go down with a glass of bubbly, or simply watching the world go by between dives.
Diving from Oceania
Diving is made easy on board Oceania, thanks to the experienced crew who are on hand to assist with dive gear both entering and exiting the water. Dual staircases and a water level duckboard at the back of the boat means entry and exit is an absolute breeze, while a purpose fitted tender can also be used during some dives. Oceania also features a central camera table on the dive deck and nitrox fills are available at an additional charge.
