About Makunudu
About Makunudu
Situated in North Male Atoll, just a 50-minute speedboat ride from the International Airport, Makunudu Island sweeps discerning guests off their feet and into a warm and authentic Maldivian embrace. Stretching little more than 150-metres from edge to edge, and with just 36 bungalows scattered across the sand, this private island resort is an ideal hideaway for honeymooners, nature lovers, and divers alike. In fact, Makunudu is such a rare haven, so beautifully untouched, that it regularly retains a special place in the heart of its guests - even amongst those who have travelled the world.
Resort life is quiet, with swathes of lush tropical gardens where little paths lead to the hidden, private bungalows. Crafted in traditional Maldivian style using local woods, stones and a palette of earthy hues, this spacious resort blends rustic charm with modern comforts, to indulge your every need. But beyond the bungalows, and the palm-roofed, sand-floored social spaces, guests will find glistening beaches giving way to the crystal clear waters of a turquoise lagoon, encouraging you to slip off those shoes, and step into island time.
Explore the resort
Makunudu invited guests to indulge in a celebration of International cuisines with a variety of sumptuous buffets, table-served set menus, and sizzling spice-seasoned barbecues. The resort’s Ara Iru restaurant - meaning Rising Sun - serves up eclectic flavours to delight every palate, incorporating east and west, as well as the familiar and the exotic. Savour your meal set to the splendid sunsets in the modern Iru Fohey restaurant, or choose an intimate dining experience nestled amongst the canopy and overlooking the ocean. Quench your thirst in the beachside Miyaru Bar with refreshing drinks and a cool ocean breeze, or head to Sand Bar after dark for music and traditional dancing.
Adventure and relaxation abound in and on the clear Maldivian waters here, including windsurfing, canoeing, waterskiing, and night fishing on a traditional dhoni in the company of local fishermen. The stunning coral reefs and rich marine means snorkelling on the house reef is fantastic, and tours can also be arranged to snorkel alongside nurse sharks or manta rays. Land-based activities include volleyball, badminton and table tennis. And, after a long day of adventure, surrender to the sensation of complete relaxation at the resort’s Aavun Spa, where therapists combine the best of Maldivian, Asian and European wellness techniques and traditions, disturbed by nothing but the soft sounds of nature.
