Conservation
Conservation
Fushifaru Maldives is dedicated to protecting the island’s delicate ecosystems and has implemented strict policies to reduce the resort's contribution to environmental degradation. The island's waste management policy focuses on efficient and eco-friendly ways to manage the output of potential pollutants. Glass, plastics, cardboard, wood and wet waste such as food, flowers and other decomposable waste are separated and disposed of via composting, recycling, and proper landfill techniques. The '0 single-use plastic' policy aims to stop single-use plastics on the island completely, and Fushifaru is in the process of banning all single-use plastics including bags, straws and cling film.
Best Dives Maldives is currently working in partnership with the Coral Doctors, a team of divers with scientific support from the German Oceanographic Museum of Stralsund, to implement a coral regeneration program in all its partner resorts. The main goal of the project is to propagate the growth of corals through replanting - using a variety of different methods. The programme's aim is to create an authentic reef habitat which can help to enrich and develop the natural reefs surrounding the island. Guests are welcome to assist in replanting the coral fragments and have an opportunity to witness the growth of a new coral garden.
