Vessel
Vessel information
This ex-fishing vessel has been completely refitted for safari diving using sustainably planted trees. The result is an open and breezy liveaboard boat with two well-designed decks. Measuring just 24-metres long, Epica may not be the biggest boat in the region, but it's certainly one of the fastest, delivering streamlined trips throughout the world-renowned region of Raja Ampat. This vessel’s simple, pared-back style and well-planned itineraries make it a popular option for budget-savvy travellers.
Epica is owned and operated by Scuba Republic, which has explored most of Indonesia’s remotest areas since its creation over 20 years ago. Now encompassing a chain of dive operations, Scuba Republic offers unique yet affordable services and high levels of professionalism, experience and fun – all at great value for money. With some of the most comfortable liveaboards in Indonesia, and covering the entire eastern archipelago, Scuba Republic can cater to all divers. Epica cruises Raja Ampat all year round and offers different itineraries depending on the season and trip length. But, they all have one thing in common – they are designed to make the most of your experience in Raja Ampat while travelling on a budget!
Onboard Epica
Epica’s lower deck sits just above the ocean and accommodates up to 12 guests in six separate cabins. Accommodation is simple yet comfortable, offering air-conditioning, fans, power sockets, and shared bathroom facilities. The upper deck serves as a common area where guests can lounge on a bean bag, take a nap in the hammock, and browse through fish books. This is also where each day’s selection of buffet-style meals are served, with a big table providing ample room for communal dining, or to gather in the evening for a game of cards. Guests can also find a little sun deck on top of the captain’s cabin for when they wish to soak up some rays.
Diving from Epica
The vessel’s dive preparation area is conveniently located at the stern on the lower deck. This is where tanks are filled, equipment is set-up, and guests can get themselves ready for the next dive adventure. Often, it is possible to jump directly into sites from Epica’s dive deck, while others may require a quick trip in the accompanying tender. For guests looking to travel light, full equipment rental can be provided on board, including dive computers.
Top tips
- Pack plenty of extras like batteries and reef-safe sunscreen. This boat's itineraries visit some of Indonesia's most remote regions where you won't find any shopping. And remember to bring your used batteries back with you.
- Epica's itineraries typically include a land excursion of two. Be sure to pack comfortable shoes, lightweight clothing, and some extra sun protection.
