Malapascua Island is one of the top destinations in Asia for divers of every level. With warm, tropical waters and crystal-clear visibility, an incredibly diverse array of marine life call these waters home, from the thresher sharks and manta rays of Monad Shoal to the mandarin fish of Lighthouse Reef. Each member of Devocean’s dive staff is an expert on the local marine life and equipped with years of local experience. This resort is also an excellent option for beginning or continuing your underwater education, with professionally conducted PADI courses, and superb facilities for divers.

Located within the Hippocampus Beach Resort, and boasting direct access to the white sands of Bounty Beach, Devocean Divers offers a low-key, social vibe with beachfront hammocks, bean bags and dining tables scattered across the sand. The resort’s recently-refurbished restaurant cooks up a wide range of Filipino, American and European cuisine and is known island-wide for its pizza oven. By night, the restaurant transforms into a lively beer garden under the stars, serving high-quality cocktails with regular live music. A separate beach bar offers a warm, comfortable atmosphere, popular happy hour, and good views of the sunset from beanbags on the beach.

Between dive days the island’s only kitesurfing school is housed right inside the Hippocampus resort, which also rents out stand-up paddleboards from the beach. Day trips to the beautiful Kalanggaman Island or half-day snorkelling trips to the best reefs around Malapascua can also be organised via the resort’s team of friendly local travel experts. For a totally worry-free travel experience, private door-to-door transport from Cebu to the resort is also offered and usually takes between three and four hours.

Diving with Devocean

Devocean Divers is both spacious and comfortable, boasting a large wooden deck equipped with tables, chairs and beanbags, and free WiFi for use before and after dives. Each day’s adventures are conducted from two comfortable Bangkas and one large speedboat - with up to four dives offered each day. Dive groups are split by skill and experience level, to help ensure everybody enjoys their time underwater. This resort offers seamlessly organised day trips to Gato Island and Kalanggaman Atoll, morning thresher shark dives at the legendary Monad Shoal, and visits to local dive sites known for exciting drop-offs, gently sloping colourful coral gardens, and cool pint-sized macro creatures. 

Additional facilities offered by Devocean Divers include private changing rooms, freshwater showers, dedicated wash-basins for personal equipment and cameras, and plenty of room for storage. Well-maintained rental gear is available, as are computers, torches, cameras, and nitrox for qualified divers. Devocean also offers a wide variety of PADI courses from beginner to pro, with their highly skilled international team providing personalised learning experiences, flexible training schedules, and small group ratios – often one-on-one! Plus, guests have access to an interactive, air-conditioned multimedia classroom and a shop stocking dive equipment, merchandise and souvenirs.

Conservation

Devocean Divers is actively involved with marine debris collection and holds regular clean-ups that are open to guests. And, the resort’s coffee shop happily offers a free cup to anyone who collects and deposits a bag of rubbish from the beach. Devocean also works closely with environmental organisations in the region, regularly reporting to international NGOs, and supports local shark conservation initiatives as well. On-site, the centre makes every effort to reduce its ecological impact, swapping out single-use plastics in favour of products like bamboo straws, encouraging guests to bring and use their own water bottle from home, and suggesting the use of reef-safe sunscreen and insect repellent to guests. 

Devocean’s dedication to the environment is continued underwater as well. Any rubbish encountered is immediately collected, making every dive an environmentally beneficial event. This resort also maintains a strict “no touch, no take” policy - asking divers to avoid any direct contact with the reef or marine wildlife. Instead, passive encounters are encouraged, preserving this region’s stunning dive sites for years to come.
