About COMO Maalifushi
COMO Maalifushi is the only luxury resort in the vast Thaa Atoll, in the southern reaches of the Maldives, providing the ultimate away-from-it-all destination for families, couples, surfers and divers. Just a 60-minute seaplane journey from the capital, unspoilt Thaa Atoll is well regarded for its diving and surfing, with some excellent breaks nearby as well as a string of uninhabited islands offering seasonal manta ray sightings and even the occasional hammerhead.
This is the first boutique hotel in the Maldives designed by Japanese architect Koichiro Ikebuchi, whose sensitive approach to nature and respect for cultural authenticity is reflected in the resort's uncomplicated, succinct design. COMO Maalifushi’s accommodation references indigenous architecture while remaining elegantly pared back to mirror the island's calming setting. Choose between overwater suites and villas built along wooden walkways above the shallow lagoon or garden rooms set within the island's tropical heart.
When it comes to delivering a memorable experience, COMO Maalifushi surpasses expectations, boasting a range of sophisticated facilities available to all - from exquisite international restaurants to the dive centre, gym, and the family-friendly ‘Play Space’. Guests can also enjoy yoga and holistic Asian therapies at the COMO Shambhala Retreat, with the entire guest experience defined by COMO’s exacting, passionate service.

You may not have heard much about Thaa Atoll’s diving, but rest assured, you won’t be disappointed. Despite its lack of fame, the atoll offers regular encounters with some of the Maldives’ most famous residents, including mantas, whale sharks, and other sharks. While around 25 sites have already been charted within a 30-minute boat ride from the resort, there are numerous channels and reefs yet to be explored, with the waters offering something for divers of all abilities.
COMO Maalifushi offers a full range of rental equipment, including dive computers, torches, and underwater GoPro cameras to help guests capture every moment of their dive. Suitably certified guests can also make the most of complementary nitrox. Regular dives are available on the house reef, as well as half-day and full-day dive excursions to sites further afield. Unique speciality dives can also be arranged, including nighttime and fluoro-diving.

Informative and entertaining twice-weekly talks discuss many areas of marine life, environments and ecosystems. The resident marine biologist is happy to answer any questions you have, or simply discuss the things guests have seen and found on the reefs during their stay helping them to accurately identify fish, plants and other aquatic life.
The Resident Marine Biologist has teamed up with Seamarc - a marine consultancy company - to plant new coral frames on the seafloor, which encourage new reefs to grow and prosper. Guests at COMO Maalifushi can sponsor one of these frames. This experience entails the making of the coral frame, with the option of also accompanying their guide to retrieve coral pieces. Guests can then track their coral frame’s progress via twice-yearly photographic updates as well as complimentary guided snorkels every time they visit the resort.
