Diving onboard Amaya Explorer

Amaya Explorer was designed for diving itineraries, with a wet equipment area at the stern, two tenders, a Bauer compressor, INT/DIN-compatible tanks, weights and belts. Nitrox is available at an additional cost. The yacht normally offers three to four dives per day, supported by four professional dive guides, with a 4:1 guest-to-guide ratio. Private dive guides can be requested in advance, and PADI courses may be available for an additional charge. 

The lower-deck digital lounge is a useful space for underwater photographers, with international plug sockets, a dry cabinet for lenses, a swimsuit dryer, a desk, sofa seating and a small marine-life library.

Diving in Indonesia

Amaya Explorer’s seasonal explorations include some of the richest and most varied diving Indonesia has to offer. Komodo is known for strong currents, manta rays, reef sharks, giant trevally, colourful reefs and classic sites such as Castle Rock, Shotgun, Karang Makassar, Manta Alley, Cannibal Rock and Yellow Wall. Raja Ampat offers exceptional reef biodiversity, manta encounters, soft corals, hard coral gardens and liveaboard access to remote islands and channels. 

The Banda Sea and Forgotten Islands are more remote and exploratory, with reefs, pinnacles, hammerhead potential, sea snakes, volcanic islands and historic ports such as Ambon and Banda. Alor adds another layer of variety, combining current-swept reefs, pelagic encounters and muck diving in areas such as Kalabahi Bay and Beangabang Bay.

Getting there

Amaya Explorer’s embarkation and disembarkation ports vary by itinerary. The normal embarkation ports include Labuan Bajo for Komodo, Kalabahi for Alor, Ambon for the Banda Sea, and Sorong for Raja Ampat. Guests should plan international and domestic flights according to the confirmed route, and build in enough buffer time for Indonesian domestic connections, especially for remote ports. The ZuBlu travel team can advise you when making your booking.

Trip costs include transfers between the yacht and shore on check-in and check-out dates, but flights, stopover hotels, excess baggage, and port or permit costs are excluded. Specific timings and inclusions should be confirmed for each itinerary before booking flights.

Other activities

Amaya Explorer offers more than diving, with snorkelling, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, freediving, trekking and village visits available on selected journeys. Shore excursions may include island walks, cultural visits and historic stops such as Banda Neira, depending on the route.

Good to know

• WiFi - Starlink internet is available at an additional cost - US$50 a trip.
• Mobile coverage - Mobile coverage will vary enormously depending on the trip and cannot be relied upon when in remote destinations.
• Plug type - International plug sockets are available.
• Payments onboard - Onboard expenses can be paid in cash, preferably IDR or USD, or by credit card link with a 4% surcharge.
• Time zone - Varies by itinerary: Komodo and Alor are UTC+8, while Raja Ampat and Ambon are UTC+9.
• Nitrox – Available at an additional cost.
• Children – Children up to five years old may travel free of charge, but local contribution and park fees can still apply; normal pricing applies from six years old.
• Dive insurance – Dive insurance is required for scuba diving activities.
• Alcohol – Alcoholic drinks are excluded from the trip cost.
• Extra costs – Possible extras include marine park fees, alcohol, dive and snorkel gear rental, PADI courses, private dive guide, single occupancy, nitrox, special tank requests, satellite communication and gratuities.
