Based in south Bali, Underwater Tribe specialise in creating customised itineraries for individuals, couples, and groups who value attention to detail, top-notch personal service, and a relaxed, mature atmosphere. Combining over 20 years of experience in the scuba diving industry, Underwater Tribe aim to provide the best possible dive experiences for their guests - whether you’re a new diver wanting personal instruction or a photographer looking for the best photographic opportunities in Indonesia. The team’s dive guides have plenty of experience working with all types of divers and UWT offer a full spectrum of PADI courses in a variety of languages including English, Italian, Indonesian, French, and Japanese.
With a hallmark of flexibility, Underwater Tribe are experts in providing bespoke dive holidays, ranging from single-day trips to multi-day action-packed dive safaris, visiting all corners of Bali for scuba diving, photography, and land-based adventure. What’s more, Underwater Tribe boasts the only full-time underwater photography training centre in Bali, providing a carefully crafted program and dedicated, personalised tuition from industry experts.
Created by Underwater Tribe, the Bali Academy of Underwater Photography is the only full-time underwater photography training centre in Bali, offering a variety of courses based on individual needs which range from one day to one-week workshops. The academy features a team of professional photography instructors and a program carefully crafted by world-renowned underwater photography instructor Mike Veitch, who boasts over 15-years of teaching experience. Priding themselves on their guest-centred approach, the team at Bali Academy of Underwater Photography dive with each participant on a one on one basis and never take their own camera – just a slate to share their tips and tricks. Underwater Tribe’s photography courses are mainly taught in the Tulamben area which offers the perfect mix of critter diving to work on macro techniques and the USAT Liberty shipwreck for wide-angle opportunities.
Underwater Tribe also offers annual ‘on location’ photography workshops, in both Bali and the Lembeh Strait, aimed at new and experienced photographers alike. Groups are kept to a maximum ratio of six students per instructor and, again, instructors carry only slates to help students perfect their skills. One of the most popular packages offered by Underwater Tribe is a combination photography class and dive safari, consisting of a two or three-day class with our instructors followed by private guiding with our photography instructors.
Dive safaris are Underwater Tribe’s main area of expertise, and they provide itineraries for all levels of diver, from beginners to serious underwater photographers. Offering private dive guides and drivers, Underwater Tribe are able to create bespoke trips designed to suit guests’ personal needs. Trips are customised to suit preferences such as hotel budget as well as preferred style of diving and are led by professional guides who know how to spot the most interesting marine life.
Guests can choose an itinerary of up to 7-days or even longer, exploring all of Bali’s best dive sites, and featuring enriching cultural excursions as well as more adventurous activities such as surfing, white water rafting, mountain biking, and canyoning. Popular sites include Menjangan Island and Pemuteran, Secret Bay, Puri Jati, Tulamben and the Liberty Wreck, Seraya, and Amed, as well as the off-shore islands of Nusa Penida and Lembongan.
From their base in Sanur, on Bali’s southern peninsula, Underwater Tribe are also able to offer a variety of diving day trips. With the islands of Nusa Penida and Lembongan just 45-minutes away by speedboat, and Padang Bai and Candidasa around an hours’ drive, guests can dive anything from black sand ‘muck’ to adrenaline-fuelled drifts with large pelagic fish. Like their dive safaris, Underwater Tribe’s diving day trips are customised to suit the needs of each guest. The team knows all of the top locations, as well as a few secret spots, and are always willing to work with guests to create the perfect trip.
