The Lagoon Restaurant and Bar boasts traditional architecture and serves buffet-style meals right on the water’s edge, with reef sharks, turtles, and rays often spotted swimming below. The menu includes both Maldivian and Western cuisine, as well as a variety of renowned desserts. Social events are organised throughout the week such as themed dinners, festive bonfire parties, and barbecue lunches on the beaches of Bird Island. The Nala Spa is rich with culture, combining expertise and techniques from across Asia, and offering a variety of treatments and tailor-made service. Activities such as yoga, fitness and Pilates are also offered by the spa.
Rihiveli resort provides a wide range of land-based activities including petanque, table tennis, pool and snooker, beach-volleyball and beach football, badminton, board games, movie nights, and also a library. Watersports equipment is available to guests free of charge and includes windsurfing, kitesurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, wake-boarding, water skiing, and snorkelling. There are also two uninhabited islands in the middle of the lagoon which can be accessed at any time. Traditional fishing excursions are available several times a week, as well as big game fishing.
Diving from Rihiveli
Rihiveli resort’s dive centre is a PADI 5-Star IDC centre run by Blue Dream, and offers guests quick and easy access to over 30 dive sites. Full Scubapro equipment rental is available from the dive centre, including dive computers, which all divers are required to wear. High-quality cameras and Diver Propulsion Vehicles are also available to rent, and nitrox is available free of charge. Attentive staff will rinse and dry all gear after diving, ensuring equipment remains in pristine condition and guests can enjoy every moment of their holiday.
Rihiveli is located on the edge of an oceanic barrier reef, separated from North Male Atoll by the deep Vaadhu Kandu channel. The diverse depths and unique topography here create an exciting ecosystem, with species such as manta rays and whale sharks, and conditions that cater to all divers. The resort’s traditional Maldivian Dhoni can carry up to 20 divers and is equipped with a sundeck, freshwater shower, first aid, oxygen, tea and coffee, and a complimentary coconut after each dive – there is no minimum number of divers needed for a trip. Morning and afternoon drive trips are offered daily and night dives can also be organised. A full range of PADI scuba diving courses is available from beginner to Instructor, including specialities well suited to the region such as drift diving and shark diving.
Conservation at Rihiveli
From its use of natural building materials to in-house composting programs and water filtering facilities, Rhiveli aims to reduce its carbon footprint and ensure balance and sustainability. The resort’s team of marine biologists lead coral restoration programs, are skilled in marine animal rescue and rehabilitation, and collaborate with global foundations to restore the area’s seagrasses. Projects are developed in cooperation with local authorities to ensure sustainable development that protects the interests and incomes of Maldivian people.
