The island nation of Indonesia straddles the equator between the Indian and Pacific Oceans and lies at the heart of the ‘Coral Triangle’ - the epicentre of the world’s marine biodiversity. Nowhere on earth can visitors experience such a range of spectacular diving - from encounters with huge whale sharks and oceanic manta rays, to muck dives with beautiful Rhinopias and the exceedingly rare psychedelic frogfish.
Positioned right on the beach front, Genesis Divers offers daily dive trips, courses and a range of accommodation options, making it ideal for divers looking to explore Alona and Bohol’s amazing sights.
- Ideal for backpackers and budget travelers
- Great team with knowledgeable guides
- Fantastic base to explore Alona, nearby dive spots and the natural beauty of Bohol.
Genesis Divers was one of the first dive resorts on Panglao Island, opening its doors in 1994 and diving the local area ever since. Known for its welcoming atmosphere - it prides itself on being a ‘home away from home’ - Genesis offers daily dive trips, a full range of STI/TDI and PADI courses, as well as tours exploring Bohol’s natural beauty. If you are looking for fantastic value accommodation and diving, right on Alona Beach, then you can’t go wrong with Genesis Divers!
Genesis Divers has two accommodation options.
4 rooms are available in Peter's House, the bamboo lattice-walled structure above the dive centre and restaurant. All rooms come with a double bed, mosquito net and hanging space. Shared showers and toilets are downstairs. Simplicity personified, these rooms are great for backpackers and couples.
For a bit more luxury, Genesis Divers has 11 rooms available at the nearby Hayahay Resort. All are air-conditioned, have twin or king size beds, private bathrooms, hot showers, mini-bars, personal safety deposit boxes, WIFI and night security.
This dive centre, albeit small, is very well run and highly recommended if you prefer something more personal than the larger commercial outfits. They offer daily dive trips to the beautiful Balicasag Islands and, less frequently, to the sea snake sanctuary at Cervera Shoal and Pamilican Island beyond. They offer the full range of SDI/TDI and PADI courses.
If you are traveling around the Philippines, we suggest buying the dive guides a beer at the end of the day and I'm sure they will share some of their suggested spots and tips such as Camiguin Island, a few hours ferry from Bohol.
