Cobalt Coast is a quiet dive resort run by Clearly Caymans who have over 25 years of experience and operations on all three islands. Located on a small bluff in West Bay, guests benefit from direct access to Grand Cayman’s world-class diving yet are still close enough to the excitement of Seven Mile Beach and George Town to satisfy everyone. Catering for singles, friends, couples, and families alike, this small resort offers a huge choice of rooms - from budget-friendly garden rooms to two-bedroom suites. Or, if you’re feeling indulgent, why not splurge on one of the penthouse Mermaid Suites with a private Juliette balcony overlooking the crystalline Caribbean Sea.
The resort’s onsite PADI 5-Star and SSI dive centre boasts some 25 years of experience in the region, and offers the best of Grand Cayman’s northern and western dive sites, all just a short boat ride away. Not to mention a nice house reef, just two hundred metres from the North Wall, and modern shore dive station for maximum convenience. And whatever underwater adventures you choose with Cobalt Coast, you’ll never have to lift a finger, with their personalised valet dive service - creating the world-class experiences you’d expect from one of the world’s best dive destinations.
Explore the resort
At Cobalt Coast you can expect a range of delicious chef-prepared meals a step above your usual dive resort fare. Meals are served both buffet-style and a la carte in an open-air dining area overlooking the pool and ocean. In addition, the outdoor Duppies Bar is open for lunch, dinner, and evening meals, with beverages, sandwiches, appetisers, and small meals. Between adventures, a sumptuous pool, jetted hot tub, and elevated beach area with lounge chairs and umbrellas provide ample options for relaxing, with the dive shop, restaurant, and intimate bar area just steps away.
Grand Cayman is home to many famous Caribbean activities, attractions, and festivals, including the popular Pirates Week in November. Sports enthusiasts will also find distance running and swimming events, as well as boating activities including sailing and sportfishing. Other popular attractions include the Cayman Islands National Museum, and the National Trust’s Mastic Trail, a two-mile footpath through unspoiled woodlands. And no visit to Grand Cayman is complete without a stopover in Hell to view the eerie black limestone formations. Thankfully, Cobalt Coast’s friendly front desk staff are on hand to provide guests with information about tours and tourist attractions, assist with car rentals, and more.
Diving at Cobalt Coast
Cobalt Coast’s onsite PADI and SSI dive centre is run by Reef Divers - one of the most experienced operators in the Caymans, with over 25 years of operations and dive shops on all three islands. The best of Grand Cayman’s northern and western dive sites - with lush coral reefs teeming with marine life - are just a short boat ride away, while great shore diving is also available from the house reef, weather permitting. Reef Divers take the work out of diving with their valet-style service, handling the heavy lifting and care of guests’ dive gear from their very first dive until their last - including rinsing, drying, storing, and setting up your gear.
The dive centre is equipped with separate rinse tanks for photo equipment and general dive gear, as well as a dry-room for wetsuits, and lockers where you can store your gear overnight. Two dive boats are on hand to transfer divers to and from sites, both custom built for safety and comfort and accommodating 20 divers with ease. You’ll find plenty of sun and shade on board, as well as a padded camera table, comfortable bench seats, restrooms and shower facilities, and a hang line and regulator for safety stops. Cobalt Coast also has a new, large shore diving station equipped with rinse tanks, outdoor shower, and high benches for assembling gear in preparation to shore dive from the dock.
Top tips
- As long as divers remain in buddy teams and stick with dive limits, it’s their choice to follow the dive guide or go off on their own.
- Reef Divers stocks new, well-maintained ScubaPro equipment for guests to rent, as well as complementary dive computers.
Conservation
In line with their green initiatives, Clearly Cayman have implemented a number of practices across all three of their resorts. This includes reducing plastic waste by using compostable beverage cups at their bars, eliminating plastic straws and providing paper straws on request, using eco-friendly cleaning products. They also reduce freshwater consumption by replacing guest bed linens less often and requesting that guests turn off lights and raise the temperature when they aren’t in the room.
In addition to protecting the local natural resources through daily activities, the resort and dive centre staff participate in local efforts as environmental ambassadors including island, beach, and ocean clean-ups. Cobalt Coast Resort also has its own recycling program with all waste taken daily to the recycling points on Grand Cayman.
